Job Description:

The Union County DJFS Public Assistance work unit has two full-time openings for the position Eligibility/Referral Specialist (Workforce Case Manager). Primary duties include: interviewing public assistance applicants concerning their eligibility for agency programs and services (e.g. food assistance, cash assistance, Medicaid, and/or child care assistance) to determine their initial and/or ongoing eligibility; and/or conducting initial interviews and/or assessments of clients for a variety of workforce development programs and seeking to resolve barriers to employment; and/or contacting employers to solicit employment opportunities; and/or interviewing and assessing clients who may be eligible for Supplemental Security Income (i.e. SSI) and assisting them in the SSI application process.

Qualifications: Education/Experience:

  • Preferred Associate degree or above in human services, behavioral or social science, education or related field;
  • OR education or experience in interviewing techniques, business math, case preparation techniques, business writing, customer service techniques and computer technology;
  • OR high school diploma (or equivalent) plus work experience which meets the minimum essential functions of the position.

Other Requirements:

  • Valid State of Ohio driver’s license and insurability under Union County’s policy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and critical thinking skills.
  • Effective use of technology and ability to prioritize, establish and meet deadlines and multi-task.
  • Must be capable of passing a comprehensive pre-employment background investigation.

Pay Range: $14.23/hr. - $18.76/hr.
